If all goes as planned, Kristen Costantino will transfer within a year from her job in Winter Haven to a position in Atlanta. Costantino, who holds a bachelor’s degree, said one of the reasons she wants to leave is the dearth of educationally compatible men in Polk County. Costantino wasn’t surprised to learn of a recent report in The Atlantic magazine that ranked the Lakeland-Winter Haven region as the second-worst metropolitan area in the country for the disparity between women and men with college degrees.

The magazine’s rankings, drawn from United States Census Bureau figures, show That places Polk County at st out of metropolitan centers.
